The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
